With 54% of the vote, the infamous “Cyberpunk 2077” is the title that most gamers think is overhyped. “Cyberpunk 2077” was a long-awaited original IP from the respected developer CD Projekt Red. The game arrived just in time for the holidays in 2020 and was, on certain platforms, an unplayable mess.
The game had major problems on every version that shipped, but things were especially bad on PS4 and Xbox One. Once Sony began offering refunds, “Cyberpunk 2077” quickly became one the highest-profile examples of a game that overpromised and underdelivered.
The next game that fans felt was overhyped, “Fortnite,” didn’t arrive on the scene with an exceptional amount of prerelease fanfare. However, it uses a seasonal model to keep the game trending. The game offers a ton of new content every few months, including new skins, map layouts, and challenges that the game fresh and worth playing. However, not everyone buys into what “Fortnite” has to offer, and 26% of gamers surveyed said they found the game to be overhyped.
